Caldwells downtown Nashville project was publicly announced in 1923 as a 14 store building, which would have made it the tallest building in the entire southeast at that time. Caldwell, however was not without competition, and then president of the American National Bank, Paul Davis, announced that his building, adjacent to Caldwell's site, would become a 15 story building. Davis already had a five-story building at the corner and built the additional stories at approximately the same time as Caldwell was constructing his building at 315 Union Street. The two buildings still sit side by side today. Davis intentionally made sure that the floors would not line up in equal sequence. Caldwell's bank was eventually taken over by The American City Bank in 1931. The resulting merger created, "The Nashville City Bank," which was the 315 Building's anchor tenant until 1988.

The property served as the home for prominent local and regional banks for over 7 decades, and with the completion of the recent renovation, will once again serve as the main offices for a regional banking concern, The Regions Bank of Tennessee, as subsidiary for First Alabama Bankshares, one of the Nations most profitable banking operations.

Located in the heart of Nashville's downtown business and financial district, the property lends itself to nearly every aspect of today's business community. For the local law community the building is home to the Nashville Bar Association and also to King & Ballow Law Firm with convenience to the Davidson County Court House.
